Aisha Yesufu has shared her thoughts on the ongoing issues within the Labour Party, reflecting on the conflict involving Peter Obi and the previous leadership regarding how party congresses were carried out.
In a message on her X account, she highlighted that the main point of contention was Obi’s demand for ward, local government, and state congresses to occur prior to a national convention, emphasizing that following proper procedures is crucial in any democratic organization, even if it isn’t beneficial on a personal level.
She stated that sticking to correct procedures fosters openness and responsibility in political parties, mentioning that the recent actions of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which held its ward, local government, and state congresses prior to its national convention, served as a reminder of this principle.
She expressed, “This morning I thought about how all Mr. Peter Obi wanted from Abure in the Labour Party was for the ward, local government, and state congresses to take place before the National Convention.
“This was the main issue at the heart of the disagreement!
“You can’t disregard due process, even if it doesn’t work in your favor, you must follow it!
“It ensures everything is clear and accountable.
“Watching the ADC finish its ward, local government, and state congresses ahead of the National Convention reminded me of this.”
