NDC: Aisha Yesufu Reacts After Reports Claim She Lost NDC FCT Senatorial Primary Election to Elderly Female Aspirant

Nigerian activist and social commentator Aisha Yesufu has reacted to reports claiming that she lost the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Federal Capital Territory senatorial primary election to an elderly female aspirant.

The reports, which circulated widely on social media on Wednesday, suggested that the activist had already been defeated in the party’s primary contest. However, Yesufu quickly dismissed the claims, describing them as premature and inaccurate.

In a statement shared on her official X account on May 27, 2026, Yesufu clarified that the NDC primaries were still ongoing and no final result had been announced. According to her, the exercise was scheduled to continue between Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday, May 28, 2026.

The activist, who recently declared her intention to contest for the FCT senatorial seat under the NDC platform, urged her supporters not to be distracted by rumours surrounding the election process. She encouraged party loyalists and supporters across the territory to intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts in all 62 wards of the FCT.

“Yesufu stated that her supporters should remain focused and committed despite the reports making rounds online,” the statement noted.

She wrote: “To my teeming supporters across the FCT do not be deterred, continue your ground work across the 62 wards. We are ready to meet them on the primaries ground.”

Her response has since sparked reactions across social media, with many supporters praising her confidence and determination ahead of the conclusion of the primary election. Others also continued discussions about the political dynamics within the NDC and the growing interest surrounding the FCT senatorial contest.

The reports about her alleged defeat came amid heightened attention on the NDC primaries, as party members and political observers closely monitor developments ahead of future elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
