Mojeed Jamiu, Executive Editor of Upshot Media, has spoken on the ongoing internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting the contrasting reactions that followed recent Supreme Court pronouncements affecting the party’s leadership dispute.

Jamiu made the remarks during a recent interview on TVC News while analyzing the political atmosphere within the PDP and the implications of the court’s decision on the party’s internal power struggle.

During the interview, he stated, “After the Supreme Court judgment, the Nyesom Wike and Makinde group were jubilating.”

He made the comment while discussing how different factions within the PDP interpreted the Supreme Court ruling, which has continued to generate debate and shape political alignments within the party.

According to Jamiu, the judgment was received in contrasting ways by various stakeholders, with some groups viewing it as a victory for their political position, while others saw it as a setback in the ongoing struggle for control of the party structure.

He referenced key political actors such as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, noting that both figures are central to the internal dynamics currently shaping the PDP.

Jamiu explained that the reaction of the Wike and Makinde-aligned bloc reflected their interpretation of the court’s ruling as favourable to their stance within the party’s leadership contest.

According to him, internal party disputes in Nigeria often produce multiple interpretations of judicial outcomes, especially when such rulings are connected to leadership control, party congresses, or disciplinary decisions.

He stated that the PDP’s internal struggles have continued to attract national attention because of the involvement of prominent political figures and the potential implications for opposition politics ahead of future elections.

Jamiu also noted that legal interventions in party disputes, while intended to provide clarity, sometimes deepen divisions when rival factions interpret judgments differently.

He added that the PDP crisis reflects a broader pattern in Nigerian politics, where internal disagreements within major parties often escalate into prolonged legal and political battles.

According to him, the Supreme Court judgment has become another point of reference in the ongoing contest for influence and control within the party.

Jamiu explained that the celebration by some factions after the ruling indicates how deeply divided the PDP remains, despite efforts at reconciliation and internal restructuring.

He further stated that such divisions could affect the party’s ability to present a united front ahead of upcoming elections if not properly managed.
