Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has offered an interesting prediction on how the 2027 presidential race could unfold depending on President Bola Tinubu’s choice of running mate.
In a post on X, Amadi suggested that if President Tinubu decides to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima on the ticket, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar (presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC) may respond with a strategic counter-move by selecting a prominent Muslim politician from the Southwest as his own running mate.

Amadi noted that such a decision could significantly alter political calculations in the Southwest ahead of the general elections.
“2027 VP Permutation. If Tinubu retains Shettima, Atiku may be forced to pick Aregbesola and go Muslim-Muslim. At least he may steal some votes from Southwest. Everywhere else in south looks dry,” Amadi wrote.

The suggestion comes amid ongoing speculations about possible realignments within the opposition ahead of 2027. A Muslim-Muslim ticket by the ADC could be aimed at making inroads into the Southwest, a region that has traditionally been a stronghold for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Atiku has already picked former Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate. This was confirmed by the immediate past chairman of ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson.
The fresh permutation raised by Sam Amadi reflects the fluid and highly strategic nature of political calculations as major players begin to position themselves for the next presidential contest.
