In a video shared by The Cable, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan addressed growing discussions surrounding the possibility of his participation in the 2027 presidential election, stating that any decision on the matter would require wide consultation and careful consideration.
Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, made the remarks while responding to increasing calls from supporters and political observers urging him to return to the presidential race. His comments have since generated renewed public interest about the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking in the video, the former president emphasized that leading a country as complex as Nigeria requires deep reflection, consultation, and commitment rather than a spontaneous decision.
“Contesting the Nigerian presidency isn’t a computer game. I’ve heard from young people, and I’ll consult. I cannot just wake up and decide I want to be president of Nigeria again. Like I said, I’ll consult, and if there’s a need, I will,” Jonathan said.
