Nyesom Wike has intensified his criticism of rival groups within the Peoples Democratic Party, challenging their claims to leadership and questioning the basis of their authority.

During a live media interaction in Abuja, Wike dismissed assertions that any faction currently controls the party, arguing that genuine leadership must be proven through recognized legal and administrative processes. He demanded that those claiming authority establish an official PDP account and direct all party financial transactions, including nomination payments, into it as proof of legitimacy.

He also accused key figures of undermining party regulations, specifically pointing to Ibrahim Turaki and Seyi Makinde, alleging that their involvement has contributed to disorder and internal crisis within the PDP. According to him, such behaviour weakens internal discipline and erodes trust in the party’s structure.

In a more personal critique, Wike said he had previously respected Governor Makinde as a promising leader but now viewed some of his actions as questionable and inconsistent with political integrity. The remark has generated significant reactions within political circles.

His statements point to a deeper and ongoing struggle within the PDP, where different blocs are competing for control over leadership structures and electoral direction. Analysts have expressed concern that the continued division could affect the party’s cohesion ahead of future elections.

Wike emphasized that leadership in any political organisation must follow due process, remain transparent, and operate within the bounds of legality, warning that ignoring these principles would only deepen the party’s crisis.

In summary, his comments underline the severity of the internal dispute within the PDP and the challenges it faces in maintaining unity and credibility as it prepares for upcoming political contests.
