The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Forum in Ondo State and former Commissioner for Works, Chief Erastus Akeju, has died at the age of 88.

Akeju reportedly passed away after a brief illness. His death was announced on Saturday, June 13, by the facilitator of the Ondo State APC Elders Forum, Chief Demola Ijabiyi.

The late politician was widely respected for his contributions to public service and his role in the development of Ondo State, particularly during his tenure as Commissioner for Works.

Reacting to the development, Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, who represents Ondo North Senatorial District, described Akeju as a leader of exceptional character whose dedication to public service left a lasting impact on the state.

According to the senator, the late APC chieftain played a significant role in the growth and infrastructural development of Ondo State and remained a respected voice within the ruling party.

Akeju’s death comes on a day marked by other reports of national losses, including the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who died while in captivity after being abducted by bandits in Katsina State.

Tributes have continued to pour in from political associates, community leaders and party members, many of whom described the late APC elder as a statesman, mentor and committed advocate of good governance.

Several Nigerians also took to social media to mourn his passing, praising his years of service and contributions to the development of Ondo State.

Chief Erastus Akeju is survived by family members, political associates and admirers whose lives he impacted during his decades of public service.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
