BREAKING: Seyi Makinde allegedly declared a curfew to prevent Sunday Igboho from entering the Old Oyo National Park

Fresh controversy has erupted following the Oyo State Government’s declaration of a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, with social media users alleging that the restriction was aimed at preventing Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho from accessing the area.

The speculation emerged after videos and photos circulated online showing Sunday Igboho visiting the Old Oyo National Park days before the curfew was announced. Several posts claimed the timing of the government’s decision was linked to his activities in the area.  

However, the Oyo State Government has not confirmed those claims. Governor Seyi Makinde, through an official statement, said the curfew was imposed as part of efforts to tackle insecurity in communities surrounding the park following growing security concerns. The restriction, which runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., initially took effect for 48 hours and has since been extended by an additional 24 hours.  

As of the time of filing this report, there is no verified evidence that the curfew was specifically declared to stop Sunday Igboho from entering the Old Oyo National Park. The allegation remains unsubstantiated, while the state’s official position is that the measure is solely for security operations.
