Reactions As Peter Obi Orders INEC To Publish Academic Certificates Of Presidential Candidates
According to a report by Vanguard on 30th June 2026, presidential candidate of NDC, Peter Obi has ordered INEC to publish the credentials of Presidential candidates and other politicians seeking elective offices.
He believed that such an action would enhance transparency and boost public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process. Obi made this appeal through a post on his Facebook page, where he reflected on the questions contained in the INEC nomination form he had completed.
He pointed out that one of the questions in Section E of the form inquired whether a candidate had ever been declared a lunatic or of unsound mind. This led him to question whether Nigeria’s political leaders were demonstrating the qualities of sound-minded leadership.
He also emphasized that Nigeria’s urgent security and economic challenges should be prioritized over political activities. He highlighted the ongoing issues of abductions of citizens, including children and security personnel, and the dangers faced by travelers on highways.
He argued that responsible leadership would treat the country’s security and humanitarian crises as a national emergency. For him, the survival, security, and stability of Nigeria should come before partisan politics and political calculations.
Finally, Obi questioned why INEC should not, in the interest of transparency, publish the academic certificates submitted by all election candidates. He also drew attention to another question in the nomination form, which asked whether a candidate had ever presented a forged certificate to INEC.
The report has generated widespread reactions from Nigerians who shared different opinions. Here are some reactions:
