Video Update On Sunday Igboho’s Ambush: Iru Ekun Security Team During Forest Operation in Oyo
Several members of a private security outfit linked to Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, were reportedly injured after suspected cross-border bandits ambushed them during an operation inside the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State.
The incident reportedly occurred while operatives of the Iru Ekun security outfit were carrying out a mission to track and dislodge suspected kidnappers and other armed criminal groups believed to be operating within the expansive forest reserve.
According to reports, the team had deployed surveillance drones to identify suspected criminal hideouts before advancing into the area. However, the operation turned violent when heavily armed attackers allegedly opened fire on the security operatives, triggering a fierce gun battle deep inside the forest.
Although several members of the team were reportedly wounded, the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed. There has also been no independent confirmation of casualties among the suspected bandits.
As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
The latest attack has renewed concerns over the growing insecurity within the Old Oyo National Park and surrounding forest corridors, which have become notorious for kidnapping and other violent criminal activities.
More details are expected as authorities and other stakeholders provide further updates.
